The French Edit with Paula Joye

Infinitely chic, bursting with life and an expert at all things beautiful – if you’re social media obsessed or know anything about fashion and style, you’ll know Paula Joye, founder and editor of super successful style website thejoye.com. Having worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years and former editor of some of our favourite mags (think Cleo, Shop til you Drop and Madison), Paula’s website is a girl’s best friend and our go to for a dash of pretty and to binge on all things beauty and style.

We caught up with the chair of The Academy’s Executive Advisory Board to talk beauty, careers and her inspiring advice for making it in the business….

Beauty is….
what you see in the mirror. Not what others tell you to see.

I start each day with …
coffee, exercise and a dash of hope.

I am happiest when….
I’m with my family and I know they’re happy and feel safe.

I found my career by ….
choice. I left school and thought I wanted to be a lawyer. It was a big decision to leave that goal behind to pursue a career in media but nothing happens unless you take the first step. I’ve always known that.

My tops tips for making it in the beauty business are…
have a high standard, never stop learning and dream big.

My biggest lesson I have learnt in business so far is….
you will make mistakes but there’s gold to be found in your failures. Never stop listening. Accept help when you need it.

My work philosophy is….
be ethical, be creative, be supportive, look forward, listen and work to live not live to work.

Before I go to bed I …
hope that the sleep fairy pays me a visit.

My beauty routine consists of …
I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to my beauty routine. I have to be or I won’t stick with it. In the morning I use a Vitamin B serum and then a SPF 50 sunscreen, which doubles as my moisturiser.

At night, I take my make-up off –always- and clean my skin with a gentle cleanser, then it’s a retinol followed by a hydration cream.

Three nights a week, I use nothing because I think it’s important to keep the skin regulated with natural oils.

I became involved with The French Beauty Academy because…
I want to help women be the best they can be. I’ve been lucky to have the support of great women in my life and it’s important to maintain that cycle of care. Pay it forward.
