Prepare for an interview

Our interviews are a chance for you to view our state of the art campuses and learning facilities and see first hand what it is like being a student of The French. You will meet one on one with a Student Advisor who will firstly give you a tour of our state of the art campus. You will sit down for a cup of tea and go through The French Education philosophy and course details. We will cover any important questions you have as well as all the course details, course fees and funding options.

The French Beauty Academy is committed to providing and promoting non-discriminatory and inclusive enrolment practices, and to ensuring that students applying for enrolment into Diploma and Certificate level courses have the required aptitude and attributes necessary to reasonably achieve the qualification. This helps you be confident that you have chosen the right course for you and your career goals as we also want to ensure the applicant is aware of and prepared to commit to the course schedules and workloads, and has a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in a beauty therapy career. Additionally, in the interview you will gain an understanding important course information like eligibility, fees and funding options.

Prepare for Orientation

  • Our Diploma programs have an official orientation day where we cover a number of key activities and sessions to get you comfortable, meet your peers and educators and find out everything you need to know before your official first class.
  • For our Short courses and Certificate level programs, your first lesson will also begin with an important orientation session to help ease your nerves and get you set up for success.

All the important details including arrival time will be emailed to you prior to your orientation so keep an eye on your inbox. Normally our orientation days for our diploma programs are 8.30am arrival for a 9am start. While our certificate and short course programs will depend on whether you are studying during the day or evening.

At The French Beauty Academy we understand how important first impressions are when preparing you for industry, our goals are your goals and we want to give you the very best chance of securing your dream job. For this reason we provide you with a French uniform and guidelines below that will help you stand out when it comes to securing your dream career. For students studying both the Diploma and a certificate program, you will need to ensure you following the uniform guidelines outlined in the course requirements.

  • Clothing – Please arrive in a pair of black pants (no jeans or leggings) with a black sleeved top.
  • Shoes – You’ll be on your feet a lot so comfortable, supportive, enclosed black footwear is a must.
  • Hair & Make Up – As you are joining an industry where presentation counts, we ask our students to always attend class with makeup applied and their hair tied back in a high bun or ponytail if below shoulder length. We encourage our makeup students to add their own creative flair to their makeup look when attending class.
  • Nails – in our industry, well maintained hands and nail hygiene is very important. We encourage students in our courses to have well groomed, clean, polished nails.  Acrylics or gels are acceptable so long as they are short, however most students find it easy to maintain short well groomed nails during their studies due to the high touch needs of your course requirements.
  • Piercings and Tattoos – Students in our Diploma and Certificate programs are following an industry readiness program and are required to remove all visible piercings, apart from one stud in each ear, and to ensure any visible tattoos are covered.

Should your course include a uniform and student kits you will receive these at your orientation. As our courses are all inclusive you won’t be required to bring too much. Here’s a checklist of simple essential items that you will need:

  • Water bottle
  • Pen and notebook / student diary
  • Laptop should you wish to use your own. Alternatively The French has loan laptops for students (a refunded deposit of $50 is required).
  • Snacks and lunch / dinner.  Each campus has a student kitchen with fridges and microwaves available for your use. We also supply complimentary tea and coffee. Each campus is also conveniently located  close to a lot of cafes and eateries for you to buy food should you wish.

Students in specific courses and/or units, receive kits to assist in their learning experience. These are distributed throughout the duration of your course, when deemed appropriate for your training requirements.

There are two websites that help you keep track of what you have borrowed and how much you still have left to pay. The myHELPbalance website will help you keep track of how much you have borrowed under VET Student Loans and the various HELP loans from 2005 onwards. Your myGov account allows you to get more information about your VETSL and other HELP debts online. It will show:

  • all of your HELP debt (which includes HECS-HELP, OS-HELP, SA-HELP, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP and VET Student Loans debts from 1 January 2017 to 30 June 2019 as a consolidated amount)
  • your VETSL debt (VET Student Loans debts from 1 July 2019)
  • any indexation that has been applied to your debts
  • any repayments you have made, so you can see how much you have left owing.

Please notify the academy as soon as you know you will miss a class by phoning the campus (if missing a class that day) or emailing your class teacher if you are providing more than 24hrs notice.

The French are committed to ensuring that all students receive adequate learning support to ensure their full potential is reached. We provide Student Support Classes where students can complete any missed observations and gain extra support with theory work if needed.

It is the student’s responsibility to book client models for assessment via the bookings system like any other client coming on to campus. The client would need to cancel their appointment with reception. If the client cancels within a reasonable amount of time another client may book into the slot on the booking system. If we are low on public model bookings the educator will aim to find a client within the student body, where possible.

link with family and friends. The French Beauty Academy also supports seeking client models for the student body via an online model booking service on the website. The French Beauty Academy invites the general public to book a treatment to meet the observation assessment requirements for a student. This service relies heavily on our local community and cannot be guaranteed, but with our outstanding reputation among our satisfied clients, we have a wonderful community of ‘regulars’ who enjoy routine treatments with our students.
