What motivated you to pursue a career in beauty therapy?

On completion of high-school I was at a crossroads and unsure of my next career or study move. I was interested in beauty therapy, but wasn’t quite sure what I’d like to focus on so I undertook some research for beauty schools and decided to study at The French!

What was your main motivation for studying at the French?

Even though the college was an hour away from home The French’s excellent reputation and diverse course structure were some of the key motivators for my study.

What was your favourite part about studying at the French? How would you describe your experience from the day you started at orientation?

I loved the The French from my first day at orientation. It was so exciting being in the room knowing this was what I wanted to do. I loved every single day that I spent at The French and I actually loved getting up and going to learn each Monday! I made some great friends at The French and the educators were always approachable which made studying that much more enjoyable.

How did the French help prepare you for life as a professional beauty therapist?

I loved working in the Student Salon because we were able to practically apply our new beauty skills to real clients! We had the support of our Educators nearby if we had any questions or needed assistance. Putting these new skills into practice before working in the industry full time prepared me for life as a professional beauty therapist.

Did you have a favourite teacher / subject at the french? Why?

My favourite teacher at college was Jodie Watkins. Jodie was so passionate, knowledgeable and personable and made learning so much fun. Jodie has since become a great friend and mentor!

HOW EASY WAS IT FOR YOU TO GAIN WORK AFTER GRADUATING? TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FIRST CAREER ‘BREAK’?

I was very fortunate to become the first Valedictorian of The French in 2010. My internship sent me to Bali, Indonesia where I met some very influential people. This opportunity opened new doors for job opportunities. My first career break saw me accept a position as an International Trainer for a luxury chemical free skincare. Had I not had the opportunity to go on the internship I would not be where I am today and for that I will be forever grateful.

HOW ARE THE FRENCH GRADUATES PERCEIVED OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?

Graduates from The French Academy are perceived as skilled, passionate therapists who have had exceptional training.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR NEW JOB? HAS THERE BEEN A MEMORABLE MOMENT SINCE YOU GRADUATED?

I love knowing that I’ve made a positive impact on someone’s day and that our clients look forward to coming in each visit. We give every single person who walks in to the salon a 5-Star experience, making them feel loved and important (because they are!) which extends much further than the treatment itself.

DESCRIBE A DAY IN THE LIFE OF KRISTINA…

Wake up at 5 am. Workout at the gym. Grab a coffee and a green smoothie on my way to work. Work at the salon performing specialised facials, manicures and pedicures. Listen to a podcast or watch YouTube on the bus home. Either catch up with friends for dinner or make dinner at home and have a cup of herbal tea. 8:30pm/9pm bedtime!
