What motivated you to pursue a career in beauty therapy?

Prior to my studies I had struggled my entire adult life on and off with hormonal acne. I was looking for a career change and thought okay I’ll learn how to fix it myself! I Have always loved being able to help others feel the best they can about themselves (inside and out) and know firsthand how debilitating it can be struggling with acne and the affect it has on your self-confidence. I truly believe this has helped me be the therapist I am today as I treat every single client with patience, compassion, and empathy.

What was your main motivation for studying at the French?

There really is nothing comparative to the French when it comes to education in the beauty industry. I knew that it was the best opportunity for me to receive a high level of education in both beauty and laser. Offering both courses made it a seamless transition from my beauty diploma to my specialised laser course even studying with some of the same students, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

DESCRIBE A DAY IN THE LIFE OF YOU ON A WORKING DAY?

I always get to work half an hour before I start regardless of where you work/study, I think this is a great way to start your day. Grab a coffee, relax, and get ready for a busy day of clients! What I love about working at Laser Skin Centre is my days are always so diverse. It can vary from a whole day on the Excel V laser to a full day of Picosure treatments to performing tattoo removal! We also do a lot of training days which I love because I feel like you should always continue to be learning and upskilling. We always have a good laugh and never take life too seriously which makes everyday fun and exciting.

How did the French help prepare you for life as a professional beauty therapist?

I was very fortunate to have an amazing educator Renee who put my resume forward for a job that she thought I’d be a good fit for (Laser Skin Centre) and I’ve been here ever since! Everything with the French is so personalised. Renee, knowing my personality and my career goals knew that it would be the right place for me and it was a perfect match!

Did you have a favourite teacher / subject at the french? Why?

Lauren was my educator for 80% of my Laser Course and I couldn’t be more grateful. She makes you feel so comfortable while always acknowledging your accomplishments. Her passion for her job translates and its contagious! She has the most amazing gift of being able to get you excited to learn literally anything!

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU RECEIVED FROM YOUR STUDY AT THE FRENCH?

Find your niche! I was never top of my class when studying my beauty diploma but I didn’t let that deter me! When I started studying my specialised laser course I found that I was so genuinely passionate about it that it made studying easy and translated into my work and my practical days. It sounds cliché but if you put the work in it will pay off!

HOW ARE THE FRENCH GRADUATES PERCEIVED OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?

The French have a great reputation in the industry. I love meeting Frenchies and seeing what they are doing out in the industry.

WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR NEW JOB? HAS THERE BEEN A MEMORABLE MOMENT SINCE YOU GRADUATED?

Having the opportunity to help people is an everyday highlight. Working one on one with people to help them with something that they may be very insecure about and helping them work through that, educating them about how to look after their skin to get the best result possible and often I’m educating my clients to be kind to themselves we are always our worst critics when it comes to our own appearance.  I also find some clients have had bad experiences in the past so I love the challenge of building that trust with my clients.

WHY IS IT SO EXCITING TO WORK WITHIN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW?

The beauty industry is at an all-time high right now. It is forever evolving and exciting to watch. There are so many new modalities and technologies coming out that I can’t wait to see how we are treating different skin conditions  in the next 10 years!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO STUDENTS WHO ARE WANTING TO PURSUE A CAREER IN BEAUTY THERAPY?

Don’t fear failure, there is always a lesson from it! Say yes to any opportunity that comes your way! It’s okay if you’re not amazing at everything, that’s what your diploma is all about. figure out what you love to do and how you can further yourself in that sector! For me this was skin, hence furthering my studies in that area.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS? DO YOU HAVE AN ULTIMATE CAREER AMBITION?

I’m very content working where I am now! Immediate goals will be to finish the course I’m currently enrolled in. Then in the future I’d love to work for a dermatologist!
