Through hands-on training and exposure to cutting-edge techniques, Chelsea cultivated a diverse skill set, laying the foundation for her future endeavors.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

The decision to start my own business was influenced by my many years of experience at LCA, where I had the privilege of working under the guidance of an incredible owner, Megan. She served as a massive inspiration to me and from the moment I met her, I aspired to become a Girl Boss like her. For years, I dedicated myself to honing my skills, gaining experience and learning the intricacies of the beauty industry. This journey was marked by countless hours of overtime, as I seized every opportunity to learn and grow. I worked tirelessly, embracing each challenge as a chance to develop my expertise and contribute to the success of the clinic. The commitment to continuous improvement and the willingness to take on extra responsibilities were integral parts of my journey.

Today, as the owner of my clinic, I am grateful for the journey that led me here.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The initial steps in setting up my business involved securing the right location, a process that proved surprisingly smooth. I consider myself lucky to have found the perfect spot on the second viewing, setting a positive tone for the venture. Following the location, the next significant step was organizing the fitout, a task that turned out to be a massive learning experience.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

One of the major challenges in starting my business was the build. Given that I had never undertaken a project like this, navigating the complexities of coordinating trades, organizing builders and overseeing the entire construction process was a daunting task. The challenge was compounded by not having a comprehensive understanding of what was involved, I was very fortunate and lucky to have family in this field and a lot of help along the way. To overcome this hurdle, despite my lack of prior experience, I took on the responsibility of doing most of the design myself, ensuring that my vision for the clinic was translated into the physical space. This not only allowed me to be intimately involved in the creative process but also empowered me with a deeper understanding of the construction aspects. Collaborating closely with the builders and trades, seeking advice when needed which again I was very lucky to have a lot of help from family and friends in the process. While the journey presented a steep learning curve, overcoming this challenge reinforced my resilience and determination, ultimately contributing to the successful realization of my business vision.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

I’ve been fortunate not to encounter major mistakes, but a valuable lesson I’ve learned is the responsibility of taking accountability. In the world of business, nothing is handed to you; everything happens when you take the initiative and make it happen. This lesson has underscored the importance of proactivity, determination, and a hands-on approach in achieving success in entrepreneurship.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The comprehensive education and hands-on training equipped me with the technical skills essential for the beauty industry. This preparation not only boosted my confidence but also allowed me to seamlessly transition into the operational aspects of my own business.

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

My future for the business involves expanding its footprint by opening the next location, creating a network of fully operating clinics. In five years, I envision myself overseeing a thriving beauty enterprise with a dedicated team. The goal is not only to provide exceptional services but also to establish a brand known for professionalism and client satisfaction. This expansion will not only amplify the reach of my business but also contribute to the growth and success of the beauty clinics I aspire to lead.
