OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

I’ve always been drawn to a career where I could help people, but I wasn’t sure where to start. I tried a few university courses, but quickly realised I worked better with my hands. Before studying beauty, I wasn’t the type to wear makeup or follow a skincare routine, as I didn’t grow up with it or got taught about it. Because of that, I often felt out of place in the beauty world and even held myself back from certain career opportunities.

Eventually, I decided to study beauty at The French, mainly for self-care and to gain personal knowledge. At first, the industry felt huge and intimidating, but learning the skills gave me more confidence. What started as a personal journey soon became a passion, and I discovered how rewarding it is to help others feel and look their best.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

I first discovered The French through social media and was really drawn to the welcoming atmosphere and the beautiful campus. I also loved the idea of being able to gain two qualifications in just one year. From the moment I stepped on campus for a tour, I instantly felt a sense of peace and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

Orientation was exciting but definitely nerve-racking. I felt a bit of imposter syndrome, like I didn’t know enough about beauty to be there. But once we started sharing the reasons why we came to study I felt so much better knowing there were others just like me. The best part was that I never felt left out, everyone was so supportive and easy to approach.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

A standout moment for me was becoming a Student Ambassador because it was an achievement that made me realise that this industry is for me. It was a nice self accomplishment and to be recognised for the hard work I put into it was amazing. I love being able to help out new students.

What do you miss most about The French?

I miss having the routine and the friends that I’ve made during my time studying.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

My favourite subject was definitely facials. It was the point where I truly understood the importance of skincare. I loved the advanced technology we got to use and the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in the industry. I honestly found all the educators amazing, so it’s hard to pick just one!

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

The French really helped me find a new level of confidence, especially when it came to presenting myself to clients and performing treatments. I also discovered a passion for beauty that I never knew I had, which has truly shaped my career path.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

One piece of advice I received from The French was to give everything a try, no matter how challenging or intimidating it seemed. When I first started working with real clients, I was quite nervous, but the encouragement I got helped me gain confidence and feel more at ease over time.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

It was quite easy for me to find work within six months of studying, thanks to the recommendation from my teacher, Nas. My first career break was receiving the Manager’s Choice Award and Therapist of the Month, which really confirmed that I was in the right career and that my hard work was paying off. I also love how The French supports us with Job showcase events, making it easier for students to land jobs.

Can you tell us about your role and what a working day looks like for you?

When I first started as a spa therapist, I spent most of my time at the reception, which gave me a great understanding of the spa’s operations. As I became more qualified, I transitioned into performing treatments, focusing on facials and massages. I still start my day early to set up, and I sometimes handle opening and closing duties.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the ability to truly help people. Whether they’re dealing with skin issues or discomfort, knowing that my treatments make a difference is incredibly rewarding.

What’s some words of wisdom or advice you could give to anyone who is on the fence about studying at The French?

If you’re serious about getting into the beauty industry, I’d totally recommend The French. It gave me the skills and confidence I needed to work in luxury spas, and the support you get along the way is amazing.

My time at The French was not always easy, but it was a journey worth embarking on. The teachers are so amazing with lots of experience to share and you will make some really great friends along the way. What I loved most were the salon days and the hands-on practice you get, it really prepared me for the real industry.

Honestly, it’s not just about learning the skills, you will grow so much as a person and gain a lot of confidence. My advice? Just embrace the journey, give it your best, and enjoy it because it will be over before you know it.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

At the moment, I’m focusing on gaining more experience and am about to start working onboard a cruise ship. Eventually, I’d love to work towards a management position or even open my own business. Thanks to the skills I learned at The French, I have so many opportunities ahead of me, which is really exciting.

From finding comfort in helping others to building her own boutique beauty space, Kikie (Siriwanna Phiromkit) has turned her passion for wellness into a thriving career. A 2024 Brisbane Frenchie, Kikie is now the proud owner of Diamond Dreams Massage, a sanctuary where clients can relax, recharge, and feel truly cared for. In this interview, she shares her inspiring journey — from overcoming challenges as an international student to creating a business built on compassion, healing, and heart.

OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

Growing up, I always found comfort and joy in helping people feel relaxed and confident. When I came to Australia, I realised I had a passion for wellness and beauty, especially through massage and facial care. During a hard time in my life, beauty therapy gave me direction, healing, and purpose.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

I chose The French because of it’s reputation for excellence, elegance, and professionalism. From the first moment I saw the campus and met the educators, I felt inspired. I wanted to learn not only the skills, but how to create a truly luxurious client experience.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

Yes! I was nervous but so excited. I had no confidence at all in the beginning, but the kindness from everyone really touched me. The staff and students were all so warm, calm, and welcoming — always smiling — and that helped me feel safe and more confident.

I felt like I was part of something special from day one. Even the uniform made me feel like a professional straight away. Orientation Week was the start of a very important journey in my life.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

Graduation day was unforgettable. After everything I had been through, walking across that stage meant so much. It was a symbol of how far I’d come.

What do you miss most about The French?

I miss the supportive environment and the friendships the most. The calming energy of the space made it feel like a real sanctuary — a place to learn, grow, and feel safe.

As someone who isn’t a native English speaker, everything was a bit harder for me. But my friends and teachers supported me every step of the way. Even on the days when I felt exhausted from work and didn’t feel like I could keep going — when I was late or missed class — they never gave up on me. They always gave me another chance, and that’s something I never expected but will always be grateful for.

I truly believe I graduated because of their kindness and belief in me. I still remember and miss everyone. Their support made all the difference.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

Facials and massage were definitely my favourite subjects. I loved how hands-on they were and how I could really connect with people through touch — it made me feel like I was truly helping someone feel better, inside and out.

My favourite educator was Kristina Gianneas, who taught us massage. I loved her technique, her flow, and the calm, confident energy she brought into every class. She taught not just with knowledge, but with passion — and that really stayed with me. Her teaching helped shape the way I deliver treatments today.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

It gave me confidence I never had before. I learned how to carry myself professionally, how to communicate better, and how to believe in my own value.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

“Trust the process.” Even when things feel slow or hard, every small step matters. That mindset helped me through both study and business.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

I actually found a job in a beauty clinic before I even graduated, which I believe really shows how professional and high-profile The French Beauty Academy is. Employers recognise the quality of the training, and I felt confident stepping into the industry even as a student.

Tell us about your role and working day.

I’m the owner and therapist at Diamond Dreams Massage, so every day is full and rewarding. My role includes hands-on treatments like massage therapy and facials, managing client bookings, handling admin, and ensuring the space always feels warm, welcoming, and professional.

I also manage all of our marketing and social media, which allows me to connect with clients, promote our services, and grow our presence in the community. I’m constantly working on ways to make the salon look better and feel more complete — from little details in the décor to refining our service menu.

One of the things I value most is creating a strong team. I look after my staff like family and personally train them to have the same warm, healing touch that represents our brand. At the heart of it all, my mission is to create a peaceful space where clients feel truly cared for — inside and out.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Seeing someone walk in stressed and leave feeling peaceful, confident, and cared for is the most rewarding part of my job. I love knowing that I’ve helped someone feel better — not just physically, but emotionally too.

I also feel genuinely happy every day just being in the space I created. Diamond Dreams Massage is my dream come true, and being surrounded by something I built with love brings me so much joy and pride.

What excites you about the beauty industry right now?

I’m really excited about how the beauty industry is becoming more focused on self-care, natural treatments, and overall wellness. People are now looking for real, hands-on experiences that help them relax, feel good, and take care of their skin in a more mindful way — and that’s exactly what I love to do.

I’ve just partnered with Payot Australia, which means I’ll be offering more advanced facial treatments and luxury skincare products in my salon. I’m also planning to train my team to be even more professional and confident in facial techniques. It’s exciting to grow in this direction, and I can’t wait to give my clients more options to look and feel their best.

Our Flagship Course: The Future of Beauty

Next generation training for Beauty Therapists & Entrepreneurs

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

Diamond Dreams Massage is a boutique massage and beauty space based in Brisbane. We offer luxurious facials, foot spa, and massage services using premium products like Payot. My goal is to create a space where people feel at home, relaxed, and completely cared for — both physically and emotionally.

Our massage treatments are especially loved by our clients because we don’t just follow a routine or do step-by-step techniques. We take the time to truly understand what each person needs — from the pressure they prefer to the areas they carry the most stress. Every treatment is personalised with care, intention, and heart.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

While working in the clinic, I realised that although it was a great opportunity, it didn’t align with what I truly love. The work was mostly machine-based and fast-paced, and I missed the peaceful, hands-on connection that comes with massage and facial therapy — the kind of care that helps people truly feel good inside and out.

That’s when my best friend asked me, “Why don’t we open a massage and spa together?” That moment sparked something in me. I felt this strong ambition and knew I had to follow it now, while I still had the energy and passion to build something meaningful.

So I made the decision to start my business right away. It hasn’t been easy — I’ve worked incredibly hard — but it’s been worth every step. I now get to do what I truly love every day, and create a peaceful, healing space for my clients.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The very first step was finding the right shop. I discovered an empty space that used to be a massage place, and I really liked it. After deciding it was the perfect location, I registered my business and signed the lease contract with the agent.

Once the shop was secured, I renovated the entire space to create a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. The renovation took almost half a year, during which I designed every detail to make Diamond Dreams Massage feel warm and inviting. After that, I set up my booking system and started with a few core services, slowly building my business from there.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges was finding clients in the beginning and managing everything by myself. I also had no experience running a business or managing staff — it was all new to me. Learning how to lead a team and build a professional space was a big step outside my comfort zone.

But I stayed consistent, kept offering great service, and focused on giving every client a positive experience. Slowly, word-of-mouth grew, and so did my confidence. It wasn’t easy, but I learned and improved every day.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

Trying to do everything alone—now I ask for help when needed, especially with accounting and marketing!

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The French taught me so much more than just massage techniques. They showed me how to be truly professional — how to present myself with clean grooming, how to communicate confidently and respectfully with clients, and how to create a polished, welcoming environment.

Before The French, I knew how to do massage, but I didn’t fully understand what it meant to be professional. Learning these skills helped me deliver exceptional service and build strong trust with my clients, which is key to running a successful business.

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

In the future, I’d love to expand into a bigger space to accommodate more services and create a truly complete luxury spa experience. My goal is to offer wellness packages and body treatments that require facilities like baths and showers, which means I’ll need a larger location.

I want to build a professional, warm, and talented team who share my values and deliver exceptional service. Most importantly, I believe Diamond Dreams Massage should be a welcoming space for everyone—people of all ages, genders, religions, and even children—because everyone deserves the opportunity to treat themselves with care and kindness.

Ultimately, I hope to grow Diamond Dreams Massage into a well-known spa where regular clients feel at home and cared for.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

Start small, stay consistent, and believe in your unique touch. You don’t have to be perfect — you just have to start. Do everything from your heart and follow your ambition. If it means something to you, that passion will carry you through the hard days and inspire others along the way.

From a lifelong love of beauty to landing her dream role with one of the world’s most iconic brands – CHANEL, Macey Dodwell is the epitome of where passion, purpose, and professional training can take you. A proud 2024 graduate from our Brisbane campus, Macey completed her studies in Beauty Therapy and Salon Management (Future of Beauty Program) with a clear goal: to help others feel confident in their skin — just as she had learned to do herself.

What began as a fascination with makeup quickly evolved into a deep love for skin science and results-driven facial treatments. Today, Macey travels across Queensland as one of only two Client Experience and Skin Care Event Experts for Chanel, blending beauty, education, and luxury in a role uniquely her own.

Macey reflects on her French journey, the unforgettable friendships she made, and the advice that continues to guide her career.

OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

I have always loved makeup and beauty since I was a little girl and have always found great passion in making myself and others feel beautiful and confident. I initially started the course with the intention of focusing on makeup but absolutely fell in love with the science behind skin and everything facials. Also, as someone who has struggled with acne for years I want to use my knowledge and skills to help people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin no matter what concerns they may have.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

I got my nails done one day by a past French student and she told me it was one of the best experiences of her life and raved about how incredible the educators were and how precious all the friendships she made were.  I decided to enrol for the following year and I am SO grateful for her.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I was terrified and couldn’t believe how I ended up there but everyone was so welcoming and I felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be within a matter of hours.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

One moment I will always cherish was my very last day of class in microdermabrasion with Nas. We all brought in food and had a big lunch together in our pyjamas and I realised what beautiful friendships I had made and how much I learnt over the year. It was a very bittersweet day as I was so sad to leave but so excited to see where the world would take me.

What do you miss most about The French?

Definitely the girls in my class and the educators but most of all the weekly massages and facials!

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

I loved specialised facials and microdermabrasion as I really found my passion for skin in performing results driven treatments, and the science behind skincare.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

I really found my confidence in both being comfortable in my own skin and in my abilities as a professional.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

I think being in the beauty industry it is our jobs to look after people both physically but also mentally, so one lesson I will never forget is to always look after yourself first and prioritise your mental & physical health. Give yourself the same love and attention that we pay to everyone else.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

Learning everything about Chanel’s beauty and fragrance products as well as using my skills and knowledge to make people feel beautiful and confident in themselves.

Can you tell us about your role and what a working day looks like for you?

My role is officially called Client Experience and Skin Care Event Expert. My responsibilities include: all beauty retail, so skincare, makeup and fragrance, performing facial treatments and working for any of Chanels promotional events. My role requires me to travel to all of the boutiques and retail partners between the sunshine coast and gold coast as I am 1 of 2 people in my position in QLD. Each working week I stay at one location and see 3-4 per day over 4 days, as well as working on the floor of the beauty boutiques.

With innovations and trends constantly evolving, what aspect of working in the beauty industry excites you the most right now?

Because I’m not in a typical beauty therapist position I am so excited to see how I can progress within Chanel as a company, and also watching their products and research evolve because it is unlike anything else I have ever worked with before.

What’s some words of wisdom or advice you could give to anyone who is on the fence about studying at The French?

You have no idea what opportunities are waiting for you on the other side of graduation and even if you decide that the beauty industry isn’t for you, you will still learn so many important lessons and skills that you can take into any job or part of life.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

I have no specific goals but more so I am just so excited to see how far I can go within Chanel and hopefully use my position and experience to travel the world.

Step 1 of 3

Meet Rosine — a force of nature with a wicked sense of humour, a heart of gold, and a passion for perfecting brows, waxing and making people feel seen, safe, and celebrated. From binge-watching Dr. Pimple Popper to dreaming of dermatology, Rosine’s journey into beauty therapy has been anything but ordinary. A proud single mum of four and now the founder of Perfected Brows (soon to be rebranded to reflect her true niche), she’s built a salon where bodies of all shapes, shades, and stories are welcome. Her story is bold, honest, and inspiring — proof that you can build a business with soul, spark, and honesty.

OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

Growing up I was always amazed at how smooth and flawless makeup looks when someone has great skin. Then I discovered Dr. Pimple Popper and fell in love with extractions.  The end goal was to become a dermatologist, I wanted to get a better understanding into the foundation of beauty and how we can treat and prevent a lot of skin concerns prior to meeting with a dermatologist.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

Prior to applying for The French Beauty Academy, I had visited 2 other beauty schools. The welcome at The French was much more inviting. The staff are all welcoming and answer questions related to the industry with so much confidence. I was impressed at the fact they still maintain industry jobs to stay updated with current trends. And they all love their jobs.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I do remember creating my aroma bottle and writing myself a note. “You did it Mama! Now let’s go buy that car!”… still working on that. The first couple of weeks were rough and long as a single mum. The load felt heavy, but I held onto the fact my kids kept telling me that I could do it and to have a bit more patience.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

Where do I even start? There were many moments that have stuck with me, from breakdowns in class and my friends and teachers consoling me. To being chased by Steph for outstanding work and extra support. The dance breaks with teachers but most of all was the never-ending community and fun whilst doing salon week. Although we came in separately, we were a team till the end and after.

What do you miss most about The French?

The support and community and the lasting friendships I would make. Let’s not forget the amazing facials, massages from fellow students. Everyone acknowledges you as you walk the hallways.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

Funny enough, my favorite was facials alongside mani pedi class. All my teachers were amazing, but Tiffany (Waxing) and Liz (Salon management) stood out the most. They were fun yet still very assertive in the way they taught us. When they told stories about their careers you could see how much they still enjoyed the industry.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

The French educators taught me to really hone down on a skill that you love and really become a master at that. Understanding ones limitations, that no-one really knows 100% of anything and that it’s okay to ask for help.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

The biggest lesson learned from The French educators was to always ask for help and to keep learning.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

Prior to graduation I was already working as a brow artist at The Brow Bar Graceville. I worked there for just over a year before I opened my own waxing salon “Perfected brows” located inside Salon Lane West End.

How are French graduates perceived in the industry? Did your employer know who The French Beauty Academy was?

My employer knew highly of The French Beauty Academy and I believe she also knows a couple of past students.

With innovations and trends constantly evolving, what aspect of working in the beauty industry excites you the most right now?

The Korean no glue lash lift trend is very exciting, the way you can lift the lashes without having to fist place them on the rod before hand.

For prospective students considering studying at The French Beauty Academy, what aspect of the program do you think sets a solid foundation for success in the industry?

OMG go for it! You won’t regret it! You will make friends along the way and learn from the best teachers. Please ask for help, everyone is there to guide you.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

I’m currently in my 2nd year of a Bachelor of Aesthetics. I hope to gain a placement into med school to specialise in cosmetic surgery or dermatology to help PoC in Australia understand their skin a lot better.

Our Flagship Course: The Future of Beauty

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

My business name is Perfected Brows (which I will be changing to reflect my overall niche.) I started the business as a brow and lash salon. As time went by, I knew I wanted to specialise in Brazilian Waxing. At the moment I would say my business is made of 90% Brazilian waxing clients. Perfected Brows is a place for woman and men of all shapes and sizes to catch up with their bestie whilst getting a service done. Our aim is for no one to ever feel like they are just another number.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

As a single mum to 4 kids, I needed to have something that allowed me to show up for my kids whilst still pursuing a passionate career. With my desire to go into medical school, my business will allow me to be financially stable whilst going through the long process of becoming a dermatologist.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

1. Made the decision to pursue entrepreneurism.

2. Looked for an affordable salon space.

3. Found my business style.

4. Understood business is a journey.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

Gaining clientele was honestly the hardest part since people didn’t know me or my business even existed. I started posting on social media showcasing my personality and how fun an appointment can be with me is. The biggest social media tip used was choosing my niche and pushing out the content.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

Biggest mistake: Not organizing my taxes properly from the start. This had me stressed until I found the right accountant & bookkeeper that now manages the back of house finances. Save, save and save some more before opening your own space, having the money to pay rent will take a big load off whilst you build your clientele.

The first space I rented was in the back of a nail salon. My gut instinct said no but I ignored that feeling, I was there for about 3 months and made no money. The current space I am in now is perfect. I enjoy going to work daily, the space is beautiful.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

Business takes time and it isn’t all about the cute and fluffy things we see on social media. Loyal clients are built whilst perfecting your craft. Listening to each client’s needs may seem like a nuisance but in the long run it becomes an asset. Once you graduate you will be forever learning even more so as a business owner.

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

In the near future I would love to start hiring staff and also have a store front.  In a couple of years I would love to be a waxing educator at The French Beauty Academy.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

The journey to a successful business is a roller coaster so buckle up baby! “Honest money multiplies” – A daily mantra from my dear mother.

Laura King’s journey into the world of beauty therapy is one marked by passion, determination, and a drive to always push the boundaries of her expertise. A former Brisbane Frenchie, Laura has transformed her love for advanced skincare into a thriving career, culminating in the launch of her own business, Skin Studio by Laura. Her story is one of resilience, creativity, and a dedication to continuous learning—a true testament to the quality of education and inspiration that The French instills in its students. In this interview, Laura reflects on her time at the academy, her professional evolution, and the key moments that shaped her path to success.

OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

My passion for beauty and advanced skincare began while I was living overseas and working within the beauty industry. I was always drawn to the science behind skin health and the incredible advancements in technology that allowed for transformative results. I knew this was where I wanted to focus my career.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

After returning from overseas, The French Beauty Academy was the obvious choice for me. Their reputation for excellence, along with their focus on advanced skin care techniques, really aligned with my passion for technology-driven treatments. I wanted to be trained by the best and learn the most cutting-edge techniques, which The French delivered.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I remember feeling both nervous and excited during my first days at The French. After being abroad for five years, it was thrilling to return to a structured learning environment. The support from staff and fellow students was amazing, and it quickly felt like I was exactly where I needed to be. Everyone was there for the same reason and had the same passions.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

The community and constant exposure to learning. I miss being surrounded by other passionate individuals and educators who were always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in beauty therapy.

I loved the challenge of understanding complex treatments and learning how to use them to deliver incredible results. My educators were always inspiring, pushing me to grow and perfect my techniques. Big shout out to Amy, Liz & Tiffany!

The French Beauty Academy gave me the confidence to pursue my dream of opening my own clinic. It taught me how to be a professional in every aspect, from client care to running a business. Personally, it helped me become more disciplined, goal-oriented, and resilient.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

The most invaluable lesson I received was to stay true to my passion and never stop learning. The beauty industry is always evolving, and the best way to stay ahead is to keep growing, both personally and professionally.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

While I was studying at The French Beauty Academy, I was already working at Brazilian Beauty, which provided a strong foundation in the fundamentals of beauty therapy. From there, I transitioned to Australian Skin Clinics, where I became the 2IC (furthering my experience. My next move was to a boutique clinic, where I entered the world of advanced skin treatments. These steps helped me build a strong, diverse skill set and opened the door for me to eventually start my own clinic.

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

At Skin Studio by Laura, I’ve created an intimate, moody space where cutting-edge skin treatments meet a therapeutic and personal experience. With eight years of experience, I offer services such as chemical peels, skin needling, and the revolutionary Morpheus8, all tailored to meet individual skin needs.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Starting my own business was a long-held dream, even when people told me it was too risky. After living overseas and gaining industry experience, I returned to Australia, studied at The French, and pursued my vision of creating a clinic that blends advanced skincare with personalized care. With the support of my partner and former manager, I took the leap, and Skin Studio by Laura was born.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The first steps involved finding the right location, designing the space, and sourcing the best equipment for advanced treatments. I also focused on building a strong brand that reflects my passion for results-driven skincare I personally went with Inmode for equipment and Ultracuticals and Dermalogica for skin care.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was taking the risk of opening a business when most people around me said it was a bad idea. I had to trust my vision and believe in myself. With the support of my partner, I pushed forward and didn’t let the doubts stop me I really just ignored everyone that said I was crazy and planned to prove them wrong.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

A valuable lesson I learned was not to listen to too many opinions. Everyone told me starting my own clinic was a mistake, but I knew I could make it work. Trusting myself and my passion has been key.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The French taught me the importance of professionalism and staying up to date with trends and technologies. These skills have been invaluable as I grow my clinic and offer the latest skin treatments to my clients

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

My goal is to continue expanding and refining Skin Studio by Laura, eventually becoming a go-to destination for cutting-edge skin care treatments on the Gold Coast.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

Don’t let fear stop you from pursuing your passion. If you have a vision, go for it. The biggest risk is not taking one at all

In the dynamic world of beauty therapy, finding the perfect blend of creativity and technical skill is key to success. For Steph, a graduate from our Brisbane campus, her journey is a testament to this fusion of passion and professional development. Steph’s story is one of transformation, inspired by a long-standing love for beauty and a deep-seated desire to address skin concerns with expertise.

Steph’s initial foray into the beauty industry began at the age of 19 with a Certificate II in Makeup Artistry. However, it was only at 26, when she chose to deepen her knowledge at The French Beauty Academy, that her true path began to crystallize. Drawn by the superior curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities, Steph embraced the challenge of returning to study as a mature student. Her journey was marked by a supportive environment, helping her navigate through her courses and inspiring her to pursue further learning.

From the nervous excitement of her Orientation week to her profound experiences in facials and massage classes, Steph’s time at The French was both challenging and rewarding. The sense of community and support she found at the academy remains one of her fondest memories, setting a solid foundation for her professional growth.

Post-graduation, Steph’s career quickly took off. With her skills honed at The French, she secured a position at a major chain during her diploma and later transitioned to a boutique cosmetic skin clinic. Her dedication to ongoing learning and her specialization in cosmetic chemistry have positioned her as a sought-after therapist. OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

I started in the beauty industry at 19 after completing my cert 2 in make up artistry, I always loved the creativity of it but was more interesting in helping those with their skin concerns so I went back to study beauty therapy at 26 in 2021 with the French.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

The French curriculum and facilities were far superior to others in QLD

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I was really nervous going back to study as a “mature” student and was worried how I would fit in/ handle the study load. Kellie was my student coordinator and she was lovely and full of inspiration which put me at ease. I remember writing a future letter to myself with our perfume scents that we would receive at graduation.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

I loved my facials classes and really found my passion here! Tiarne and Kellie really helped shape me to where I am today and Kellie assisted me with helping me find ongoing study options after the French.

What do you miss most about The French?

The community and classes. As much as I loved my continued study, it did not compare to the French in terms of community and teacher support.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

Facials with Tiarne, I loved being able to learn and touch skin, it really ignited my passion further and Massage with Kellie, while I didn’t love the massage practical I loved Kellies informative classes and materials.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

The French helped me with my confidence and shaped me as a therapist I am today. The French really pushed me to be my best and follow my passions and dreams.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

theres always something to learn in this industry. Kellie provided me with some text books on more advanced skin analysis and cosmetic chemistry to read over the Christmas break, Im really thankful for this and it really inspired me to continue my learning. This is something I love about the industry is there is always new and innovative technology and findings.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

Very much so, I found a job half way through my diploma at one of the major chains which I learnt a lot from. After I graduated I went to work in a beautiful boutique cosmetic skin clinic which really honed in on my skin skill set.

How are French graduates perceived in the industry? Did your employer know who The French Beauty Academy was?

French graduates are perceived very highly in the industry and yes they did, they spoke very highly of the French and other employees who were past frenchies and how our skills stood out to others who studied elsewhere.

With innovations and trends constantly evolving, what aspect of working in the beauty industry excites you the most right now?

Skin always, I’m really interested in cosmetic chemistry and combining modalities to get the best outcome for my clients. Im loving no downtime peels and lasers with great results.

For prospective students considering studying at The French Beauty Academy, what aspect of the program do you think sets a solid foundation for success in the industry?

The new programs at the French (this wasn’t available during my time) will set them apart even more and have them industry ready for advanced modalities. The strict uniform and grooming guidelines (we are a first impressions industry) this comes in handy when interviewing and meeting clients for the first time and the service excellence as you come across a lot of different people and situations as a therapist.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

Since graduating I planned to continue my studies in dermal science and my aim was to work under a cosmetic Doctor. I have recently finished these studies and have gained employment under a cosmetic Doctor in a beautiful clinic in west end. When I was interviewed he spoke highly of the French as my foundations of my studies prior to my dermal science studies.

Say hello to Tahlia Muniz, a Brisbane Frenchie and trailblazing entrepreneur who turned personal adversity into a flourishing beauty business.

At just 16, Tahlia faced challenging skin conditions due to misguided skincare routines influenced by social media. This experience, while difficult, sparked a profound transformation. It led her to develop an effective skincare regimen and seek professional help, eventually regaining her confidence. Her battle with acne inspired a vision: to empower others to feel beautiful and confident in their own skin. This resolve drove her to launch Beijo Beauty & Skin, a sanctuary where beauty transcends skin deep.

Through her business, found online at www.beijobeauty.com.au and on Instagram @beijo.beauty, Tahlia doesn’t just offer services; she crafts personalized experiences that promote holistic well-being and self-love. Beijo Beauty & Skin stands as a testament to Tahlia’s commitment to quality, care, and the empowering ethos that beauty is about feeling great in your own skin.

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

At the age of 16, I struggled with acne caused by improper at-home dermaplaning attempts influenced by social media. The struggle with acne deeply impacted me mentally, leaving me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. However, through perseverance, I discovered effective treatments, developed a tailored skincare regimen, and sought professional facial treatments, which eventually restored my confidence and comfort. This experience ignited my passion to help others facing similar skin challenges, inspiring me to pursue my dream of empowering individuals to feel beautiful and educating them on proper skincare practices.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

In 2023, I completed my eyelash extensions course at the French Beauty Academy and launched my business “Beijo Beauty”. As I gained experience through practice and welcomed new clients, I began to yearn for greater variety in the services I offered. After reading numerous reviews on the French Beauty Academy, I was reassured that it was the ideal institution for my beauty education. I wanted to ensure that I was in capable hands and receiving top-quality education.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I vividly remember my orientation week, filled with nerves and excitement as I embarked on my diploma journey. Despite my fears of potential failure, the educators at the French Beauty Academy immediately put me at ease. Their encouragement and reassurance instilled in me the confidence that success was attainable with the right mindset and determination. Whether entering the diploma program to explore newfound passions or pursuing a clear career path, the thought of a new beginning can bring nerves in anyone.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

A memorable moment from my time at the French Beauty Academy was my first massage session with a client. Guided by Sam, my educator, I initially felt confident but soon found myself struggling to remember the steps and feeling uncertain about my performance. However, at the end of the session, Sam reassured me that improvement comes with practice and time. Determined to refine my skills, I spent the evening practicing on my mother until I felt comfortable with the techniques and pressure. The following week, two clients from that day’s sessions provided me with positive feedback, alongside encouragement from Sam, affirming my progress and boosting my confidence.

What do you miss most about The French?

I will miss the support from both the educators and fellow students at the French Beauty Academy. When I first started, I never imagined forming such deep friendships with such a diverse group of girls, but that aspect made the diploma experience even more meaningful. The atmosphere of support and kindness among everyone was truly special, and it’s something I will always cherish and hold dear in my memories.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

I have immense gratitude for all my educators at the French Beauty Academy, but Kelly, Sam, Nas, and Maranda left a profound impact on me. Sam’s thorough teaching techniques laid a strong foundation for me, especially in mastering the basics in facials. Kelly introduced me to the spiritual aspects of massage, providing a deeper and more meaningful perspective on the practice. Nas challenged me to push beyond my limits, particularly during the final stretch of the year, with her honesty and drive motivating me to improve my knowledge and skills in skin health. Maranda went above and beyond, teaching me not only about nails but also the importance of pushing myself and staying true to who I am. And let’s not forget Maranda’s humor, which carried our cohort through until the very last day of term. The impact these educators had on me is something I will never forget, and I will forever be grateful for their guidance and support.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

At the beginning of my diploma journey, I lacked insight into the demands of being a beauty therapist, both mentally and physically. However, the French Beauty Academy played a huge role in nurturing my confidence, particularly in communication with clients and in delivering treatments and recommendations with assurance.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

Never underestimate your creativity; trust in your own beliefs and instincts rather than solely relying on the opinions of others when it comes to treatments.

With innovations and trends constantly evolving, what aspect of working in the beauty industry excites you the most right now?

What excites me the most about working in the beauty industry right now is the constant evolution of innovations and trends. The opportunity to stay at the forefront of these developments, whether it’s embracing new trends, exploring sustainable practices, or uncovering fresh creative approaches, is truly thrilling.

For prospective students considering studying at The French Beauty Academy, what aspect of the program do you think sets a solid foundation for success in the industry?

For students contemplating enrollment at The French Beauty Academy, one aspect of the program that I believe sets a solid foundation for success in the industry is the comprehensive and hands-on approach to learning. From mastering techniques to gaining practical experience in real-world settings, the French Beauty Academy equips students with the essential skills and confidence needed to excel in the beauty industry. The personalised guidance and support from experienced educators foster a supportive learning environment that encourages growth and development, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the industry upon completion of the program.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

As a beauty business owner, my goals for the next few years are centered around both personal and professional growth. Professionally, I aim to expand my business by introducing new services, reaching a broader clientele, and establishing a strong presence in the industry. I aspire to enhance my skills through continuous education and training, staying updated on the latest trends and techniques to offer the highest quality services to my clients.

On a personal level, I am committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment for my future team, promoting their professional development and well-being.

As for my dream role or achievement, I envision becoming a recognised leader in the beauty industry, known for innovation, excellence, and dedication to empowering individuals to look and feel their best. Whether it’s through expanding my business, collaborating with industry influencers, or advocating for diversity and inclusivity, I am driven to make a meaningful impact and leave a lasting legacy in the beauty world.

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

Beijo Beauty & Skin is a culmination of my passion for skincare and beauty, combined with the knowledge and skills I acquired during my time at the French Beauty Academy.

Beijo Beauty and Skin is more than just a beauty brand; it’s a belief that beauty is about more than just external appearances—it’s about feeling confident and empowered in your own skin. The mission at Beijo Beauty and Skin is to provide high-quality skincare and beauty products that not only enhance natural beauty but also nourish and care for the skin.

My focus is on delivering exceptional results while ensuring clients feel pampered and rejuvenated. With a commitment to authenticity, mindfulness, and a personalised approach, Beijo Beauty & Skin is dedicated to helping clients look and feel their best, inside and out.

My goal with this business is to inspire confidence and self-love by promoting a holistic approach to beauty that celebrates individuality and embraces the unique beauty of every person.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

I decided to start my own business because I had a passion for helping people feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. I wanted to create a space where people could take a break from the hustle and bustle of life to relax and appreciate their bodies and skin. My main goal for clients is to provide them with a safe space where they can feel completely at ease and cared for. It’s been about creating this welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and beautiful.

The journey has been incredibly rewarding, from our humble beginnings to just celebrating our first anniversary and expanding to a new location at Salon Lane in West End. I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of my clients through Beijo Beauty & Skin.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

In the beginning, I focused on laying the foundation for success by investing in quality training and products so that I could provide the level of expertise and professionalism that I wanted. This process has been gradual and I have continued to expanded my range of products and services. Securing the necessary licenses was also crucial to ensure business compliance. Once I had a vision for my beauty business, I mapped out a bit of business plan outlining my goals and some strategies for success in what is quite a competitive market. I then invested in establishing a strong and professional brand identity that aligned with the type of clientele that I wanted to attract. Now, as Beijo Beauty & Skin enters a growth phase with the opening of our new West End salon, I’m thrilled about the opportunities ahead. The business has evolved rapidly over the past year, and I’m confident that we’ll continue to adapt and thrive as we listen to our clients and respond to market demands. I’m excited for the journey ahead and the future success of Beijo Beauty & Skin

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

Navigating the competitive beauty market and introducing Beijo Beauty & Skin amongst many established competitors was hard, and striving for perfection and worrying about how your business is perceived only added to the challenge. Building a loyal client base from scratch was tough too. Leveraging social media and word-of-mouth referrals helped raise awareness, but for me it was crucial to focus on delivering exceptional service and nurturing strong client relationships to build trust and loyalty. Additionally, being the face of the business felt strange! It’s like, am I doing this right? But embracing authenticity and transparency helped foster genuine connections with clients and build credibility in the industry.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

One of the biggest hurdles I encountered when starting my business was the challenge of attracting clients. Despite creating a cozy and inviting space in my own home, I initially struggled to draw in a substantial clientele. My expectations of clients flocking in for lash extensions after obtaining my certificate were quickly met with the reality of needing to actively market my services and build brand awareness. To tackle this, I embarked on a multifaceted approach, including social media promotion, networking within my community, and offering special promotions to entice new clients. Additionally, I focused on delivering exceptional service to each client, hoping to cultivate positive word-of-mouth referrals. Through perseverance and adaptability, I gradually overcome this hurdle and established a solid client base for my business.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

During my time at The French Beauty Academy, I learned the importance of service excellence and maintaining motivation, especially during tough times. One key takeaway was from a TED Talk that emphasized resilience, reminding me that setbacks are temporary and don’t define the overall trajectory of my business. This mindset shift has been invaluable in navigating challenges and staying focused on long-term success.

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

My plans for the future of Beijo Beauty & Skin involve continued expansion and growth, with a focus on offering more advanced skin services and additional treatments to meet the evolving needs of my clientele. In the long term, my primary goal for my business is to establish a full-service salon, complemented by the addition of an injectable nurse to expand our range of services. Beyond just growth, I aim to cultivate a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment for both clients and staff. By creating a space that prioritises not only quality services but also a sense of community, I envision building a salon that becomes a trusted destination for beauty and wellness.

Ultimately, I aim to establish multiple successful beauty salons, each providing consistent, exceptional service and welcoming, nurturing environments where clients can truly relax and rejuvenate. My ultimate business goal is to become a leading destination for skincare and beauty services, known for our commitment to excellence and dedication to embracing and enhancing natural beauty, inside and out.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

My advice would be to embrace the journey and be open to learning from every experience. Starting a business is challenging but rewarding, and it’s important to stay resilient. Starting a business requires courage and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. Trust in your abilities and adapt and evolve as you navigate the entrepreneurial journey. The path to success is rarely linear, and it’s important to be adaptable and able to pivot when necessary. I’d also recommend to continuously seek out opportunities for learning and growth, whether it’s through formal education, mentorship, or hands-on experience. And, most importantly, surround yourself with a supportive network. Having a strong support system can provide invaluable guidance, encouragement and perspective as you navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

My passion for beauty started with makeup in 2012. I had studied and worked at Napoleon Perdis and thought I had found my thing.

I started to have dreams of having a booming at home business so I could start a family with my husband and still do what I love, but infertility struggles threw a spanner in the works for me and had me reassessing what I actually wanted to do.

I originally thought makeup would be my main service, but as I slowly added more qualifications to my portfolio, I started to realise I wanted to take a more in depth dive into the world of beauty and find out exactly where my niche was.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

I did a lot of research before deciding to attend The French Beauty Academy. I actually asked around with other beauticians who I knew were great to try and find out which school was going to be the best fit for me.

One beautician mentioned The French Beauty Academy and as soon as I started looking into it I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. Not only was the structure exactly what I wanted but the way the college presented itself and held value in how students presented themselves really was a stand out for me.

I wanted to study at a place that embodied every value I wanted my business to hold.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

In all honesty I remember feeling a little overwhelmed and wondering if I was truly capable of what was ahead. Those thought patterns quickly changed when I started to realise everyone in that room was just as nervous as I was. The teachers were so warm and welcoming that any previous doubt I had quickly dispersed.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

A stand out memory for me was walking up on the stage at graduation to actually receive my diploma. That might sound a bit cliche but my journey at the French wasn’t your average journey.

I hit the ground running when school started and every week had me wanting more and excited for what was to come. I then found out whilst studying that after experiencing infertility issues for years that I was pregnant and my due date was right when I was meant to be finishing up my final exams.

This was a miracle for my husband and I but at the same time I wondered if my career in beauty had ended before it had even truly begun.

I had amazing teachers rally around me and let me know that this would not stop me from completing my diploma if I did not let it.

Studying whilst pregnant is not ideal, but through that I experienced an unspoken French Beauty sisterhood of love and support which came not only from teachers but also class mates that had become some of my closest friends at that point in time.

So walking up on stage after doubting so many times if I would even make it there was a definite highlight for me.

What do you miss most about The French?

I miss the laughs. There was a time and a place to be serious and get things done but amongst that there were so many laughs and good times.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

I had too many favourite educators, Lauren, Alana, Carleigh, just to name a few.

It was hard to have just one favourite subject when their love for the subject they were covering would just rub off on you.

My teachers were honestly the best and I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of women to have been taught by.

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

The French helped me set a standard for what type of beautician I wanted to be, how I wanted to hold myself and present myself. Being exposed to working in the student salon also gave me that real world experience which also helped boost my confidence prior to entering the industry.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

To work hard but to also be kind. My situation with being heavily pregnant during final exams could have been an annoyance for some. But I had beautiful teachers who not only pushed me to work hard but also worked with me to do my assessments during lunch breaks or outside of my class times, just so I could complete my diploma on time.

They didn’t have to do some of the things they did for me, but their kindness has truly stuck with me. Things that I know I have emulated in any leadership roles I have taken on personally and professionally since my days of study.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

Even after finishing up I was having opportunities presented to me. I had spas reaching out and even a job offered to me immediately from the spa where I had done my placement.

How are French graduates perceived in the industry? Did your employer know who The French Beauty Academy was?

My employer and others that I interviewed with from large corporations to small sole trader businesses have all thought very highly of graduates from The French, even way out in Toowoomba. It appears to be well known and respected that we are trained to a very high industry standard.

With innovations and trends constantly evolving, what aspect of working in the beauty industry excites you the most right now?

Change can sometimes be scary but evolving with the industry is important. This constant change keeps things interesting, whether its the trial of new products or keeping up to date with new techniques, I find the industry definitely keeps things interesting.

For prospective students considering studying at The French Beauty Academy, what aspect of the program do you think sets a solid foundation for success in the industry?

One aspect of The French Beauty Academy program is that it sets a solid foundation for success in the beauty industry with its comprehensive curriculum covering both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience. It provides students with a well-rounded program that equips you with the skills and expertise needed to thrive in various roles within the beauty industry. Additionally, the emphasis on industry-relevant training and real-world experiences, allows students to gain valuable insights and practical skills that are essential for success in such a competitive industry.

Looking ahead, what personal or professional goals are you aiming to achieve in the next few years? Is there a dream role or achievement you're working towards?

Looking ahead, my goal is to expand my client base and increase brand recognition within my community. I aim to offer a wider range of services and establish myself as a trusted authority in the brow community. Ultimately, I aspire to create a thriving and sustainable business that allows me to pursue my passion for beauty whilst providing exceptional service to my clients.

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

My business is called Brow & Beauty Haven which specialises in Brow Mapping but also offers Brow Laminations, Lash Lifts and makeup services.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Originally after completing my Diploma of Beauty Therapy I thought I wanted to open my own little day spa. My journey changed along the way when I fell in love with Brows and Brow Mapping. After 12 years doing makeup, completing my Diploma of Beauty therapy and having 3 kids, I decided to rebrand my business and officially open a salon at home and specialise in Brows.

I have continued to add to my qualifications and have a goal to expand my services within my business.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The first thing I did was get an ABN, register my business name and make sure I had the correct insurance to cover myself and my business. I also set up a google business profile and put myself on the map. I made it my goal to see as many people as possible to begin with and request they leave me a google review. Having good reviews and a lot of reviews will set you apart from the other businesses in your area that provide the same services.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

Social media is a big part of the beauty world. I realised that the way I presented myself online needed to improve if I was going to succeed. I really struggled with keeping up with it all to begin with but by doing extra courses in social media training and practicing these skills I have gotten to a point where 80% of my clientele come from finding me on social media.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

Value yourself and your skills and do not let clients take advantage of you. It’s definitely right to be kind but it’s ok to be kind and have boundaries within your business.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The emphasis on presentation along with extensive hands on training and education gave me the confidence to step into a business owner role and know exactly the type of beautician I wanted to be.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

Find your niche service and become the best you can at that. Never become stagnant either, trends, techniques and new products are forever being developed so keep up to date with what is new and continue to do courses to stay up to date with new techniques.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

The decision to start my own business was influenced by my many years of experience at LCA, where I had the privilege of working under the guidance of an incredible owner, Megan. She served as a massive inspiration to me and from the moment I met her, I aspired to become a Girl Boss like her. For years, I dedicated myself to honing my skills, gaining experience and learning the intricacies of the beauty industry. This journey was marked by countless hours of overtime, as I seized every opportunity to learn and grow. I worked tirelessly, embracing each challenge as a chance to develop my expertise and contribute to the success of the clinic. The commitment to continuous improvement and the willingness to take on extra responsibilities were integral parts of my journey.

Today, as the owner of my clinic, I am grateful for the journey that led me here.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The initial steps in setting up my business involved securing the right location, a process that proved surprisingly smooth. I consider myself lucky to have found the perfect spot on the second viewing, setting a positive tone for the venture. Following the location, the next significant step was organizing the fitout, a task that turned out to be a massive learning experience.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

One of the major challenges in starting my business was the build. Given that I had never undertaken a project like this, navigating the complexities of coordinating trades, organizing builders and overseeing the entire construction process was a daunting task. The challenge was compounded by not having a comprehensive understanding of what was involved, I was very fortunate and lucky to have family in this field and a lot of help along the way. To overcome this hurdle, despite my lack of prior experience, I took on the responsibility of doing most of the design myself, ensuring that my vision for the clinic was translated into the physical space. This not only allowed me to be intimately involved in the creative process but also empowered me with a deeper understanding of the construction aspects. Collaborating closely with the builders and trades, seeking advice when needed which again I was very lucky to have a lot of help from family and friends in the process. While the journey presented a steep learning curve, overcoming this challenge reinforced my resilience and determination, ultimately contributing to the successful realization of my business vision.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

I’ve been fortunate not to encounter major mistakes, but a valuable lesson I’ve learned is the responsibility of taking accountability. In the world of business, nothing is handed to you; everything happens when you take the initiative and make it happen. This lesson has underscored the importance of proactivity, determination, and a hands-on approach in achieving success in entrepreneurship.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The comprehensive education and hands-on training equipped me with the technical skills essential for the beauty industry. This preparation not only boosted my confidence but also allowed me to seamlessly transition into the operational aspects of my own business.

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

My future for the business involves expanding its footprint by opening the next location, creating a network of fully operating clinics. In five years, I envision myself overseeing a thriving beauty enterprise with a dedicated team. The goal is not only to provide exceptional services but also to establish a brand known for professionalism and client satisfaction. This expansion will not only amplify the reach of my business but also contribute to the growth and success of the beauty clinics I aspire to lead.
